Harley-Davidson

Author: Brenda Williams

Harley-Davidson is a manufacturer of motorcycles based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that was started with small plans in 1901 by a 21 year old named William S. Harley. In 1903, Harley enlisted help from his friend Arthur Davidson and Davidson's brother Walter to build a motorcycle strong enough to climb the hills of Milwaukee without using pedals. On September 8, 1904 a Harley-Davidson motorcycle made its first public appearance at State Fair Park in Milwaukee when it was entered in a race and driven by Edward Hildebrand.

The largest manufacturing job for Harley-Davidson came during World War I, while the company was still in its infancy. The United States wanted motorcycles involved in the war effort and asked Harley-Davidson to begin mass-producing bikes for the country. The company produced 20,000 motorcycles for the war effort. Before World War I Harley-Davidson manufactured a handful of motorcycles for the military to use in its border skirmishes with Poncho Villa but did not manufacture as many as they did for World War I.

Harley-Davidson was one of only two motorcycle manufacturing companies to survive the Great Depression in the United States and began supplying the government with motorcycles for use in World War II. During the span of the war Harley-Davidson manufactured over 90,000 motorcycles for the allied forces. Almost 30,000 of the 90,000 manufactured were sent to the Soviet Union under the Lend-Lease program.

During the company's history Harley-Davidson endured periods of tarnished reputations because of movies and relations to motorcycle gangs. Harley-Davidson motorcycles were used in Hollywood films that depicted outlaw biker gangs during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Harley-Davidson was also associated with the gang the Hells Angels and other motorcycle gangs because their bikes were those gangs' bikes of choice.

The models being manufacture presently by Harley-Davidson are the Sportster, the Dyna, the Softail, the Touring and the Revolution. All of these models have been in production by Harley-Davidson for decades now.

The Harley-Davidson company has four manufacturing plants across the country and they are located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; York, Pennsylvania; Tomahawk, Wisconsin and Kansas City, Missouri. The Harley-Davidson museum opened in 2008 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and includes exhibits, an archive, a restaurant and café and a museum store. Tours are offered at all four of the company's manufacturing plants as well as the museum in Milwaukee. The museum opened on July 12, 2008 and is located at Sixth and Canal streets in downtown Milwaukee. It is a three-building, 130,000 square feet operation that includes a variety of bikes on display as well as other memorabilia. The construction and operation of the museum is costing the Harley-Davidson company an estimated $75 million and should attract close to 350,000 visitors annually from around the world.

In 1983 the Harley-Davidson company formed a 'fan club' for the owners of its bikes and they penned it the Harley Owners Group. As an acronym it appears as H.O.G. Hog is also a nickname for motorcycles. In 2006 Harley-Davidson had its NYSE symbol changed from HDI to HOG.

Vagina Health Tips for a Sweet Smell & Optimum Health

Author: Sacha Tarkovsky

All women need to be aware of their vagina's health. Keeping it healthy means you will avoid infections and also have a pleasant odor and the tips enclosed will ensure that you have optimum vagina health

A healthy vagina is home to a huge variety of minute organisms. Normally, they live harmoniously in an acidic environment that prevents the overproduction of any one species in the vagina and helps combat foreign bodies that can infect it.

Vaginal infections are common and occur when the delicate balance is disrupted can cause discomfort in the area and unpleasant smells.

Firstly, the health of a women's Vagina and the smell are influenced by overall lifestyle, diet and weight.

If you follow the tips below you can ensure a healthy vagina so here they are:

1. Your Overall Diet

Eat a healthy diet. Cigarettes alcohol and drugs should be eliminated if you can or cut down, as should heavily spiced foods and junk food.

Try and eat as naturally as possible (food free of additives) and make sure you drink lots of water. What you put into your body comes out in its secretions and the vagina is the same. Ever noticed how your sweat smells differently after eating spiced food, then you will realize why this is so important.

2. Cleaning

Odor-producing bacteria can thrive on the vulva and need to be cleaned off regularly to prevent vaginal inflections and prevent odors.

Washing the genital area daily with a simple, fragrance-free soap is normally enough to keep the vagina area clean and fresh.

Your vagina self-cleans itself so douching is not required.

Furthermore, douching upsets the delicate balance between good and bad bacteria in the vaginal ecosystem and can actually be harmful.

Because infections such as yeasts are found in the intestine, it is important after going to the toilet to wipe front to back i.e. you need to wipe the vagina area first and the rectum last!

During sex it is also very important to avoid contamination of the vagina area with organisms and bodies from the bowel, or rectum area.

3. Clothes to wear

To prevent vaginal infections and keep your vagina healthy make sure your clothing allows the area to breath. To do this avoids tight garments and fabrics containing a high percentage of synthetic fibers such as nylon.

Remember, that tampons and diaphragms left for too long in the vagina can create a very strong unpleasant odor as well.

4. Safe sex

Finally, if you don't know your partner very well, always Use a condom and a spermicidal to reduce the chances of infection and disease.

If you are unlucky enough to get an infection, the symptoms are outlined below of three of the most common ones.

The good news is that to reclaim a healthy vagina is easy, if you are alerted to the problem and take action.

1. Bacterial vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) accounts for more than 50% of all vagina related health visits.

About half of all women with BV vaginal infections have no obvious symptoms.

The most common symptom is a thin, white to light grey discharge with an offensive fishy like smell that is extremely unpleasant.

The odor is strongest when the discharge is exposed to any alkaline substance and this includes soap and semen, it will therefore be at its strongest and most obvious after cleaning or sex.

BV is easy to treat and is normally treated by a course of antibiotics prescribed by a doctor.

2. Yeast

Although yeast infections are probably the most common type of vaginal infection, many women never bother to seek help.

Most simply recover naturally and others treat themselves with anti-fungal vaginal creams available without prescription from the chemist.

Symptoms of yeast infections include:

Vulvar itching combined with irritation in the vagina area and redness.

If the urinary opening becomes inflamed, urination will increase and discomfort will be present. If the infection is severe, the vulva will swell and fine breaks, called fissures occur. This causes vaginal discharges to become thicker and whiter.

Yeast infections are the result of excessive growth of a family of fungi that normally live in any healthy vagina, but when they increase the balance of the vagina is upset and problems occur.

The most common infection is vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), which is usually caused by a fungus named Candida albicans.

There are two types of VVC:

Uncomplicated, a mild infection that responds to therapy. Or recurrent which, is more severe and often occurs in women who have diabetes or are infected with less treatable forms of yeast, such as Candida glabratia.

Recurrent VVC, normaly occurs more than four times a year and needs a long initial treatment of around two weeks and then a follow-up therapy course for up to 6 months or longer.

Certain factors are common causes such as nylon and Lycra clothing that traps heat and moisture, so be aware of our clothing tips for a healthy vagina we noted earlier.

Other common causes include:

Obesity, pregnancy, diabetes and suppression of the immune system during illnesses, the use of oral contraceptives, and eating excessive amounts of sugars, starch, and yeasts.

If you do have a yeast vaginal infection, your doctor will ordinarily treat you with either prescription or nonprescription antifungal creams and suppositories referred to earlier.

If you have a problem get professional help and you will soon have a healthy vagina. Do not ignore symptoms or think they will go away get help quickly.

3. Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis, or "trich," is a sexually transmitted vaginal infection suffered by a huge amount of women worldwide and this runs into tens of millions. While infection with trichomoniasis can be uncomfortable, it is not in anyway a serious threat to overall health.

The symptoms are normally vulvar and vaginal burning and itching. The burning is normally at its height after intercourse.

In addition, there may be vulvar swelling and frequent and uncomfortable urination. There is a heavy vaginal discharge, usually yellowish or green, which may or may not have an offensive smell.

The trichomonad is a minute parasite. It has three tails at its narrow end and swims with them and the white blood cells of the body follow.

These blood cells literally chase down the trichomonad and kill it by eating it.

Symptoms occur only when the body's natural defense are swamped by with sheer number of reproducing trichomonads and the white blood cells cannot cope.

Trichomoniasis is usually easily diagnosed and antibiotic treatment cures it in the majority of cases.

Follow the tips above for a healthy vagina and if you do have a problem don't worry or be embarrassed simply seek help quickly and clear up the problem, in the vast majority of cases treatment is quick, easy and painless

How Having a Healthy Vagina Can Put a Smile on your Face

Author: Kacy Carr

How is it that every time after bathing and before sanctioning a daily ritual on my vagina with scented smellies I still detect an odour, this is a questioned asked by many females? Although the vagina is an odourless organ, smells can still occur through natural happenings of the human body like sweating of which produces odour, however, if sweating is not the cause there maybe a simple explanation to why a vaginal odour remains. Normally vaginal odours are determined by the actual smell itself. In answer to the question why the vagina still smells after a bath/shower can be caused through infection. The lingering fishy odour is usually caused by bacterial vaginosis

The vagina has its own self regulating cleaning system so therefore making it a body part cleaner than the mouth or the orifice down below (rectum) Just because the vagina smells does not dictate that a person is dirty, the vagina contains many bacteria types e.g. good and bad. Lactobacilli the good bacteria has its healthy purposes where it helps prevent all bad bacteria interfering with the female reproductive system.

A healthy vagina normally has a slightly sweet pungent odour, however, if of a stronger pungency (fishy odour) then this is usually a sign that there has been a disturbance in bacteria’s where the bad bacteria has finally upset the balance therefore resulting in the lactobacilli not able to carry out prevention. Eliminating causes which can upset the balance will certainly help stem vaginal odours occurring later. There are several factors which can disturb the balance in the vagina and lead to the vaginal condition called bacterial vaginosis.

Poor hygiene – is most definitely one reason why offensive smells develop. It is not necessary to scrub the private parts as you would like cleaning a floor, the genital area is delicate and sensitive so be careful even when using perfumed soaps/sprays. Cleansing with water is fine because scented products can cause thrush.

Illness – some conditions are somewhat unavoidable, a pelvic Infection can lead to vaginosis. Bacteria is known to flourish if Candida is diagnosed because of the amount of alkaline present of which is more known to develop through a poor diet, oral contraceptives and stress

By preventing conditions which affect the vagina can save you money i.e. unnecessary products. Douching is neither a necessary process nor is it recommended because it forces water or other solutions into the vaginal orifice to wash away discharge or menstrual blood. Seek medical advice if you tend on douching. All you need to do to maintain a healthy vagina is wash the vulva daily with warm water. Avoid using scented soaps. It is not uncommon for some women to douche after engaging in sexual activity in an attempt to prevent pregnancy or catching a sexually transmitted disease, douching is not a prevention method for birth control nor will it reduce risk of catching infections. The best method to avoid catching an STD is to use a condom if you enjoy coupling with different partners

How can a healthy vagina put a smile on your face, well the next time you are out socialising and you get a fishy whiff you know the finger of suspicion is not pointed in your direction.

Vaginal Itching & Infections – Does Your Vagina Itch and Sting When You Pee

Author: Kacy Carr

Whether the vagina is only a "titchy itchy" it can still mean something is wrong. Nonetheless the itch does not have to be something of a serious nature either. A vaginal itch can be caused by simple things like being allergic to the material of your underwear or that your jeans maybe too tight. Should the itch be one that has you aggressively clawing away at the skin near to tearing the flesh, and you know the cause is not that of cloth or tightness then you will have to have yourself checked over by your doctor? Vaginal itching is not uncommon nor are the reasons for the itch occurring and that being more times than not an infection.

Most common vaginal infection that includes itching and burning is thrush. It also causes the vagina/vulva to swell along with soreness.

Thrush is referred to as a yeast infection or candidiasis which is an overgrowth of yeast that brings a variety of nasty symptoms. Although the infection can be treated, it is known to come back, if this be the case in your case then seek medical help as it could be something more serious. We all have yeast in our bodies and if grows out of control, then thrush is usually the result.

All genders young and old carry yeast in and on their bodies without any problems. Yeast is notably known living in the intestines, vagina, mouth and skin. This may not sound healthy but the body has 'friendly' bacteria which help keep yeast levels low.

Soreness, swelling and redness are primary symptoms if delicate tissue of the vagina is infected. Thrush not only causes a stinging sensation when peeing but is painful too. The sting is due to inflamed tissues in the vagina. It is painful to have sex, sexual intercourse should not even be considered until the infection is cleared. Movement i.e. sitting and walking can because you pain. All women have a vaginal discharge and know what the norm is, but if thrush is present it can show up white and thick (not all the time) with a strong smell of yeast and like yoghurt to look at. It can also be watery with a light smell. Yeast thrives in warm, moist locations with low acidity and an ample supply of sugar.

Taking antibiotics can cause the infection.

Antibiotics kill friendly bacteria of which is needed to keep yeast levels low

Antibiotic drugs are prescribed to fight infections, but while doing so can kill 'friendly' bacteria, such as lactobacilli. Without lactobacilli, the balance in the vagina is upset giving cause to Candida.

1.Taking the birth control pill affects hormones which result in a woman's ability to metabolize (process) sugar. Yeast feeds on sugar, and any extra supply in the body, will give reason for yeast to develop more. Because of this, they say taking the pill no longer augments a woman's risk of thrush.

2. Women who suffer from diabetes are more likely to suffer because diabetes increases blood sugar levels, which may, in turn, higher the sugar level in vaginal secretions. Diabetic women normally have high sugar levels in their urine, therefore encouraging thrush by feeding on yeast

Like with most disorders and conditions the best effective way to keep healthy and keep disease at arm's length is to eat healthily. A healthy well balanced diet along with light exercise is seeing off life threatening illnesses every day. Specific foods may have an impact on thrush. Some medics say sugar; dairy produce, coffee, tea and wine contribute to thrush by increasing urinary sugar.

You can relieve the itch using Aloe Vera which will also cool down burning around the vagina.

Treat the burning with cold water or ice cubes wrapped in a tee cloth. If it's good enough for babies its good enough for you. Rub the outer lips of the vagina with nappy rash cream

Introduce to yourself and into to your daily routine the suggested below to help prevent thrush infection

Eat yoghurt with lactobacillus acidophilus, or take lactobacillus acidophilus supplements.

Never douche - the vagina is a self cleaning organ so douching is not necessary. Avoid using chemical based beauty products.

Wear cotton under wear or go commando if you have no cotton briefs. Wear loose clothing round the genital area.

Remove tampons regularly,

After using the loo wipe from front to back. Candida in the bowel can infect the vagina causing infection.

You must not be embarrassed over having this infection; in fact you shouldn't be embarrassed over any vaginal issue. Vaginal infections are very common indeed and so are the doctor appointments for women who wish to suffer no more. So make an appointment and 'rid' any worries, the pain and most importantly of the fear of telling your doctor.

Sexually transmitted diseases - The Price of Sexual Freedom

Author: Anne Wolski

In this modern era, sexual freedom is taken for granted and little is thought of promiscuity as it was in past generations. However, the reality is that this sexual freedom also carries with it the very real threat of sexually transmitted disease. Because not all sexually transmitted diseases are curable, it is essential to take steps to avoid them.

A sexually transmitted disease or STD is actually a combination of several different conditions that are all acquired through sexual intercourse. AIDS, a disease caused by the HIV virus, is the most serious of the sexually transmitted diseases and, despite some progress in recent years, is still incurable and is usually fatal.

Some of the other problematic sexually transmitted diseases's include syphilis, gonorrhea, genital herpes, and non specific urethritis. There are also a few other diseases such as pubic lice, genital warts, trichomoniasis, and monilia that are classed as STDs but are of a less serious nature.

The incidence of sexually transmitted diseases has increased over time and today there are more recorded cases than at any time in the past three decades. This is because people, especially young people, feel that the use of contraception allows more sexual freedom and has led to a change in the views of sexual behaviour. It is also a fact that this sexual freedom has led to people becoming sexually active at an increasingly younger age. However, not all contraception can stop the spread of infections caught during sexual intercourse.

Syphilis
One of the most serious sexually transmitted diseases's is syphilis which is highly infectious and, if it remains untreated, can result in death. Even if it is not fatal, the probability of disability is high.

Not only can the syphilis bacteria be contracted during sexual intercourse, but it can also be passed to the unborn child of an infected mother. The baby is then born with a condition known as congenital syphilis. This is quite uncommon in this era as all pregnant women undergo routine blood testing.

The incubation period for syphilis varies. The first symptoms can also vary, thus making early diagnosis difficult. Usually, the first symptom is a painless ulcer around the genital area, the anus, or the mouth. Because this ulcer heals without any medical intervention, the person doesn't normally do anything about it, thinking that it is nothing important.

If this disease is not treated early, it is likely to result in death. It is therefore essential that, if a person believes he or she may have been in contact with an infected person, that medical advice is obtained immediately.

Gonorrhea
Another serious and very common disease contracted by sexual intercourse is gonorrhea. Often, the female is unaware that she is infected because around eighty percent have no symptoms. Other women suffer from dysuria (pain while urinating) or from lower abdominal pain. This is because it involves the fallopian tubes and can therefore lead to sterility.

The disease is more obvious for the male, resulting in dysuria followed by a discharge from the penis. This occurs within a week of contracting the infection. Gonorrhea in the male is usually confirmed by laboratory testing of the discharge.

A dose of penicillin is the normal treatment for gonorrhea in both male and female sufferers. It is also vital that the person abstain from alcohol and from sexual intercourse for a period of several weeks. Although the treatment relieves the symptoms quickly, it is essential that the person continues to have medical maintenance to ensure that the cure is complete. A responsible person should inform any sexual partners of their infection so that they may be examined and treated if necessary.

NSU

The most common sexually transmitted disease is nonspecific urethritis or NSU which continues to increase at an remarkable rate. Many cases of NSU are caused by the Chlamydia germ but not all. NSU is an inflammation of the urethra and has no identifiable cause.

The primary symptom is a discharge from the penis. This may be nothing more than moistness at the tip of the penis but this can vary. The discharge is different to the discharge in gonorrhea and makes it easier to recognize. There is also pain on urinating.

Genital herpes

Genital herpes, another sexually transmitted disease, has reached epidemic proportions in the Western world. This is because the herpes virus cannot be cured and so, once infected, the person carries the germ permanently. Thus, any person infected adds to the population of carriers.

There are two herpes viruses. The first one, HSV 1, is normally found around the mouth and is known as cold sores. The second one, HSV 2 , is an infection passed by sexual contact and is normally found in the genital area and the anus, as well as on the bladder, the buttocks, the thighs and the legs of both male and female sufferers.

After the first attack the virus lies dormant in the body. It will then recur time and time again, usually in the same place, appearing as a painful blister. When any of these blisters are open, the carrier is extremely infectious. Usually, the attacks are linked to emotional or physical lows such as depression, stress, or injury.

Genital herpes causes pain and distress to an adult but is not fatal. However, if the herpes virus is passed to an infant during its journey down the birth canal of an infected mother, it is often fatal. It is important for the mother to inform the medical professionals so that they can monitor her pregnancy and possibly advise her to have the baby by cesarean section.

Genital herpes cannot be cured but there are ways of making the attacks more bearable. By keeping the affected area clean and dry, the carrier can ward off secondary infections. Pain can be kept to a minimum by the application of cold compresses and also by taking salt baths.

Female sufferers need to have a pap smear annually as genital herpes has been linked to cervical cancer.

In women, vaginal discharge may constitute reasons for concern. However, if the discharge is clear, it is unlikely to be the result of disease. If the discharge is offensive and discolored and causes irritation to the vagina and vulva, it would suggest the presence of infection which may need to be investigated. It is essential that this is not allowed to continue and medical advice should be sought as soon as possible, especially if this is accompanied by abdominal pain and fever as it may be an indication of a sexually transmitted disease.

Prevention

Obviously, the best way to avoid sexually transmitted diseases is by abstinence or monogamy. However, if considering sex with a new partner, it would be wise to use a condom until you are sure about the person. If you are worried, cleaning the genital area thoroughly with soap and water after intercourse will kill many of the bacteria. This is true for both males and females.

It is extremely dangerous to apply antiseptic lotions to the genital area and particularly to pour strong antiseptic into the urethra or vagina as it can cause serious and permanent internal damage.

If you believe there is any possibility that you may have an sexually transmitted diseases, do not hesitate to seek medical attention. Everything that happens is confidential and no information is given to anyone without your permission.

Remember that the staff are there to help you, not to judge you, and the atmosphere is usually very friendly and helpful.

Feminine Hygiene - Vagina Health & Smell

Author: Sacha Tarkovsky

The vagina, similar to our mouth, is normally inhabited by a multitude of microscopic organisms.

The vagina's acidic environment prevents one species overpowering another, and inhibits infection. A healthy vagina actually smells quite sweet and pleasant.

Yet the change that occurs with any vaginal infection changes the smell immediately, and thus one can partially judge a vagina's state of health by its smell.

It should be noted that both the smell of a vagina and its being infected are directly related to a woman's lifestyle, her weight, and diet.

Some basic rules on Feminine Hygiene can both prevent infections and insure a sweet smelling vagina as well.

Hygiene

Because infectious agents such as bacteria and yeasts are found in the intestine, after defecation a woman must wipe herself from front to back vaginal area first, rectum after.

A bidet or immediate wash of the anus is also advised, with a rinse of the vulva with warm water.

Washing also the genital area often with a special ph balanced soap is also essential, and especially after each urination

Vaginal irrigation is not necessary as it usually disturbs the acid environment, and can allow yeast, for example, to flourish.

Women should discourage vaginal and anal intercourse alternation during he same session.

Once a man's penis or any object has entered the anus, it must not be allowed back in the vagina without disinfection.

Life-Style

Tight jeans and clothing look great, but they prevent the normal breathing function of the skin and especially an area like the vulva. This closed in effect will produce an unpleasant smell

For the same reason, woman is recommended not to wear panties during sleep.

Use of synthetic materials in clothing will also react with the bacteria on the skin, and the bacteria's waste product leaves a particularly unpleasant smell, so wear only 100% pure cotton or silk panties a majority of the time.

If you use tampons, change them very often. Left too long in a vagina, the tampon itself will be a major cause of order and even infection.

Diet

It has been shown that diet can affect directly the smell of the vagina. Eating less meat and meat products, and more fruit and vegetables have a very good effect on vaginal odor. Also, you must drink at least 2 liters of water daily.

Sexual Conduct

The use of prophylactics (condoms) is highly recommended for all couples except those that are very familiar. Also if you allow a man to insert either his fingers or toys into your vagina, try to insure both are clean.

Vaginal Infections

This subject is covered in other articles dedicated to this subject, but any of the below can (and does) cause unpleasant vagina odor. In each and every incidence, you must see your gynecologist.

Bacterial Vaginosis.

This gives the characteristic fishy smell.

Yeast Infections.

Most women do not see their doctor with yeast infection, and resort to over-the-counter medicines. Symptoms include vulvar itching, redness and irritation. Painful intercourse. We recommend seeing a gynecologist.

Trichomoniasis.

This is a sexually transmitted illness with symptoms including vaginal itching, burning, and discharge. See your gynologist.

A bit of care goes a long way. Your vagina was meant to smell sweetly and as it normally cleans itself (both monthly and daily) your caution will be rewarded.

Reasons Why 100% Effective Vaginal Odour Treatments “don’t” Work

Author: Kacy Carr

Why is it that every piece of information found on vaginal odour treatments or vaginal discharge is nearly always the same? Many women admit to feeling more frustrated over this than that of their actual vaginal concern. Reasons given for this happening is, if inappropriate treatments are used and still no cure then naturally you are drawn like a magnet to once again return for what seems repetitive information? Let us say you have a vaginal odour and would like rid because of embarrassment, then what do you do, you look for medication or a solution to clear the smell. You can prevent further episodes of frustration if the right vaginal odour treatments are used in the first place. Take note all frustrated women, could you be using the wrong treatment, if so then the law of average has it that you will no doubt go back and have to read the same old thing over and over again until you get it right. No treatment no matter how affective will give positive results if treating the wrong condition.

Vaginal odour treatments vary purely because of different causes. These causes can be brought about for many reasons of which need to be determined by your doctor so he/she can get to the root of the problem for why the smell is there. Vaginal odour treatments are only 100% affective if your prescription is to treat the right symptoms. The vagina is an odourless organ of the body, but if your vagina is in the process of releasing an unhealthy smell - then there has to be a perfectly simple explanation for this, and for why there maybe a vaginal itch also. Having an itch around your private parts is not only embarrassing but one that can worsen if infection sets in after the delicate skin surrounding the vagina is torn through fingernails used for relief.

The best course of action to avoid vaginal irritation is to keep the genital area dry giving the region room breathe.

1 Cotton underwear should be worn

2 Change sanitary towels and tampons at regular intervals

3 Refrain from using vaginal sprays, deodorants or other type smellies

4 Remove damp clingy clothing caused through sweating

5 Avoid tight-fitting clothes; not only to help keep vaginal smells at bay but for comfort too

6 Wearing synthetic materials next to the skin can cause irritation

7 Cleanse well after using the loo. Use the front to back motion after bowel movement

8 Hot sweaty conditions should have you wash more

There may be times that you feel the need to go that extra mile by giving the vagina a real good scrub on the inside. Douching is not recommended as it can disturb the vagina's natural acidic balance and increase risk of irritation. A vaginal douche forces water or other fluids into the vaginal cavity to clean away discharge or stubborn period blood. The vulva only needs a daily rinse with warm water. Some fem products may contain scented ingredients which can add to your problem or cause irritation.

Bacterial Vaginosis/vaginitis

Bacterial vaginosis is an inflammation which happens in the vagina and includes several germs that cause bacterial vaginosis yeast infections and trichomoniasis. Bacterial vaginosis is the most common vaginal infection affecting from 10 percent to 64 percent of the female population. If BV is left untreated it can increase risk of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), endometritis, cervicitis, and cause complications to rise throughout pregnancy. Main causes of bacterial vaginosis include an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria and the Gardnerella organism.

One familiar symptom of bacterial infection is an unpleasant fishy odor. Itching and/or burning sometimes come with bacterial infections, but are not necessarily a symptom of the condition. Bacterial Vaginosis treatment is relatively easy and effective. BV treatment usually consists of three days or up to a week of applying Cleocin 2% vaginal cream. Oral antibiotic treatment is sometimes given on prescription.

Vaginal Thrush

Thrush is an infection caused by yeast called Candida. Tiny numbers of Candida live on the skin and around the vaginal region. The immune system and the harmless bacteria that normally reside on the skin and in the vagina usually stop Candida from flourishing. Trailing behind bacterial vaginosis, thrush is the second most common cause of a vaginal discharge. Discharge is recognized as white and smooth, but can be loose (watery.) Aside from pain (not all patients) thrush is a female complaint of torment where the symptoms of an itch and redness come to the fore. Symptoms are normally petty and clear up them self. There are various treatments for thrush so it is important for your doctor to be the one who recommends any treatments.

Topical treatments are pessaries and creams which are inserted into the vagina with an applicator. Ingredients include anti-yeast medicines such as clotrimazole, econazole, fenticonazole, or miconazole. You can get topical treatments on prescription, or you can buy them at chemists without a doctor's prescription. Topical treatments can be used if you are expecting a baby.

Two types of tablet for treating thrush are available. Fluconazole is taken as a single dose, or itraconazole which is taken as two doses over the course of 24 hours. Side-effects are rare. Unlike topical treatments these are not to be taken if pregnant or breastfeeding. Anti-yeast cream can be rubbed onto the skin around the vagina to help relieve an itch. Tablet treatments and topical creams are equally effective. Women find the tablets more convenient, although more expensive, but hey girls what's a few extra pennies in comparison to having a healthy vagina.

The Scariest of Diseases - Genital Warts

Author: Nammy Mike

One of the most embarrassing diseases that an individual can get is genital warts. Genital warts are a particular type of sexually transmitted diseases, usually caused by HPV (human pappllomavirus). It can be transmitted from one partner to another by direct skin contact during sexual intercourse. Any kind of sexual activity, such as oral, anal or vaginal sex can lead to transmission of genital warts from a healthy partner to another.

Genital warts can be easily identified as a genital HPV infection. Severe case of genital warts can also lead to cervical cancer in women. Many people may tend to confuse genital warts with other benign anal warts but genital warts are entirely different. They can be identified as fleshy, raised growths on the genital areas of an individual. They generally occur in clusters. Genital warts can be extremely small or can even grow eventually to transform into large masses of clusters in the penis area.

Genital warts are most commonly seen in men. Men are affected by genital warts on specific areas, such as the tip of penis. Some other genital areas may also include shaft of the penis, the area around the penis and on the scrotum. On the other hand, women are less prone to genital warts but are at a risk, nevertheless, if they engage in sexual activity with an infected person.

In women, genital warts are usually less prominent compared to men. Women can suffer from genital warts on the inside and outside area of their vagina, on the outer opening of the cervix or the uterus.

In some of the rarest cases, it is possible that an individual may develop genital warts in their mouth or the area around their throat, if they have had oral sex with the infected partner. Genital warts occur when the viral particles of the infection are able to penetrate through the skin of the other partner via the microscopic abrasions which may occur in the genital area during the sexual activity. It may be possible that the HPV may not get transformed into a fully fledged genital wart for quite a number of months or even years, after they are transferred from an infected partner to another partner.

In certain cases, it is usually seen that individuals are not able to identify whether they are suffering from genital warts or not, as the virus has not yet taken shape of the wart, but it is there nevertheless. In certain cases, it may be possible that these genital warts may disappear on their own, even if the individual does not seek proper medication for them.

Finally, it can never be said whether a genital wart will disappear gradually or transform into a more prominent, raised growth. However, there are a number of medications and topical treatments available on the market, which can help to treat genital warts, depending on its size and the exact location where the warts have occurred.

Vaginal Odours - a Rose Smelling Vagina is not Healthy

Author: Kacy Carr

Is there a cure for vaginal odour? The answer is yes and no. No cure is necessary because the vagina is an odourless organ of the female body. However, if a vaginal infection is present or you keep a poor hygiene pact with the vagina then this can give cause for a smell of which we do have a cure.

Unfortunately due to embarrassment women spend money they can ill afford on products they believe will get the job done (rid vaginal odour).Just because a fem product box looks healthy does not mean the content is healthy. To start swabbing the vagina with unfamiliar creams/lotions can cause more harm than good. Your GP needs to determine your condition to be able to prescribe the right medication. If an infection is the cause of your vaginal odour, then oral consumption of tablets/pills will not help. To treat an infection will include antibiotics of which can not be obtained from over the chemist counter.

You can avoid upsetting the natural pH balance of the vagina by evading methods that can lead to vaginal infections. Vaginal douches, feminine hygiene products, perfumed or deodorant soaps smelling like roses are a few to mention.

Thrush Infection

Thrush is commonly recognized in women; however it can also affect men. Thrush is caused by yeast called Candida. Tiny amounts of Candida live on the skin and around the vagina. The immune system and harmless bacteria that normally live on the skin and in the vagina usually stop Candida from thriving. If conditions are good Candida amasses and can attack the vagina causing symptoms.

Because Candida settles in warm, moist, air free spots, answers the question why the vagina is the most likely place for this infection. Thrush can infect the groin and mouth
Thrush symptoms will show up in your discharge. Discharge is normally smooth off white and watery. Itchiness, redness, or pain outside of the vagina (the vulva) tells us thrush maybe the cause

Bacterial vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis (BV for short) is a common infection which affects women. It is a condition of the vagina caused by an overgrowth of various bacteria (germs). Germs do no imply that you are dirty so no need to worry. Bacterial vaginosis is not just a simple infection caused by one type of bacterium.

The primary symptom of Bacterial vaginosis is a vaginal discharge. Most women get stressed over the fishy smell experience, well Bacterial vaginosis discharge often white-grey colour is known as the cause for the fishy smell. Unlike thrush Bacterial vaginosis discharge does not as a rule cause symptoms of soreness and irritation around the vagina/vulva.

In BV, an 'overgrowth' of various bacteria erupts in the vagina for reasons unknown as we speak. The vagina is already infected with different types of bacteria (harmless). Although harmless they create a barrier against harmful germs such as Candida. In BV, there is a change in the balance of the normal bacteria in the vagina, and particular bacteria grow and flourish much more than normal. Medical experts explain these changes as "a change in the bacterial flora of the vagina from mainly lactobacillus species to high concentrations of anaerobic bacteria." A vaginal infection should not have you believing to bathe the vagina more than necessary. Compulsive cleansing is not recommended because it can upset the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina, which may make Bacterial vaginosis more likely to develop.

About vaginal discharge

The crucial function of the vagina is to provide a pathway from the exterior of the vagina to the uterus and the internal reproductive system. The natural, acidic, pH of your vagina acts to prevent infections. The vagina is a self cleaning organ.
Every female will lose some amount of vaginal discharge. Glands in the vagina and cervix produce small amounts of fluid that flows out of the vagina everyday taking with it old cells that line the vagina. Normal discharge plays an important role in helping the vagina stay lubricated clean.

Normal vaginal discharge is often lucid or milky when dry on underwear. Signs for abnormal discharge or infection clotted cheese-like vaginal discharge, burning feeling when peeing , regular increases in vaginal discharge, change in colour, consistency, or loss, blood when not time of menstruation, Itchy rash or a foul odor accompanied by unusual coloured vaginal discharge (yellowish green).

Genital warts- Treatment

Author: Cdmohatta

Genital warts form on the male genitalia, female genitalia (both inside and outside) and near anus. They may appear singly or in a bunch and if allowed untreated, they can grow bigger and appear like cauliflowers. It is better to prevent getting genital warts rather than treating them. But the problem is this- one who passes on the virus that causes genital warts may be unaware that he/she has got the virus. So despite all precautions such as use of condoms etc. you may still get them. If unfortunately you get them, how does one treat them?

Genital warts- Treatment options

Your doctor may suggest treatment options to remove the warts by topical application or surgery. You cannot kill the virus by taking a tablet. You have to remove the warts and hope for the best. One method is application of topical medicines that may contain substances to dissolve the wart. That will depend upon the location of the wart. Every wart cannot be treated like this. Know more about how common warts are treated. Click here- warts treatment.

Genital warts- get them removed

To remove the wart the most popular method is to apply liquid nitrogen to it. Liquid nitrogen has very low temperature and will kill the skin and tissues of the warts. After few applications, the wart will get killed and can be removed easily. This is done by doctors and is not a painful procedure. Again how to and whether to use liquid nitrogen depends upon the location of the wart. Your doctor may get electrocautery or surgical excision to remove the wart. Lasers have emerged as a good option. All the treatments depend upon the location of the wart. Even after the wart is removed, there is no guarantee that it will not come up again. Get all the warts removed and keep you safe. Anytime you get mew warts, get them removed as soon as they appear.

Safe Simple "healthy Vagina" Solutions - the Perfect Vagina

Author: Kacy Carr

Healthy Vagina - If the whole of my body is already healthy from doing exercise, eating proper foods and working out in the gym, then why is it so important that the vagina is singled out and kept healthy too? Is the vagina not part of the whole body? This is a good point and to help clarify the confusion, the vagina is an organ of the body that has its own need for personal maintenance. Because the vagina is out of sight for most of the time, it is however, forgotten about that is, until it gets itchy sweaty or smelly.

If the vagina is in a healthy state, it is then you can say the "whole" of the body is in tip top condition.

As an important part of the woman's body, the vagina needs as much care to hygiene. It is surprising how it is neglected of basic care. Not always intentionally. The ways to maintain the vagina are really quite simple and easy to initiate

" In general your overall health will contribute to keeping a healthy vagina. Consider more yoghurt and lessen sugar throughout the day. Yogurt contains good bacteria called acidophilus. While sugar, encourages a particular bacteria that the yogurt destroys.

" Cleanliness - Most reasons for vaginal infections occurring is through sweat and oils buildup. Wash regularly. Avoid douching as it is to thorough and not necessary. While a douche may take bad bacteria, it in contrast takes more of the good which is not healthy. Douching can also lead to increased inflammation (vaginitis). The inside of the vaginaneed not be bathed because it's constantly flushing itself. The only reason that you might have consider douching is if you're trying to get pregnant or want to alter the vagina's pH for a greater good.

" Condoms also help keep your vagina clean. Having unprotected sex often can lead to vagina problems as well as the obvious pregnancy and STDs.

" Cotton is breathable fabric and best to be worn round the genital area. Wearing cotton allows the air to circulate which frees the skin resulting in freshness.

" Leaving a tampon for more than six hours is not healthy. It can cause a toxic syndrome. Sanitary towels should also be changed regular according to circumstance. Pads can cause serious irritation. Inserting objects even tampons into the vagina can cause damage. Safe insertion of a tampon should be done when you have made yourself comfortable Find the most relaxed position for your body. Raise one leg on a footstool or toilet seat. Do not rush as the tampon can displace later. insert the tampon slowly and gently.

" We all love our bathroom smellies but too much of good thing may not be healthy. Avoid sprays and scented soaps. Soap is really not necessary and along with bubble baths can worsen vaginal dryness. Moisturizers and lubricants are both popular treatments used for vaginal dryness.

Keeping a healthy vagina is part of a regular hygiene regimen. If you notice specks of blood between monthly cycles - see your doctor. Vaginal bleeding is not proof enough to signify something serious is wrong; nonetheless it is in your best interest to ask your GP the reason why.

Is there a specific way the vagina should be washed? No, but there are guidelines you should follow like using products that can irritate the skin or have you suffer an allergic reaction.

Cleansing the vagina is pretty straight forward i.e. warm water and flannel is all that is needed. If the need for lather is your forte then use a special soap for vaginal cleaning. Vinegar is fabulous for refreshing the vagina. Mix vinegar with water for washing. Regular pap smears which screens you for infections or illnesses is not only sensible but great for keeping the vagina in check. Avoid stressful events because they can lead to vaginal infections

Is there such a thing as a perfect vagina? If we knew what a perfect looked like this would be easy to answer. Women differ in shape and build, so therefore vagina`s display small, wide, big, hairy or hairless so how do you tell. If the vagina is healthy - it sure beats perfection hands down.

Hair Length Myths - The Long and Short of it

By: Xaner

The Truth
The hair growth cycle is in three stages; the Anagen phase, the Catagen phase and the Telogen phase. The first stage called the anagen phase is the phase of active hair growth. In This phase hair grows from the hair follicle (these are the tiny holes that hair can be seen growing from) on average 0.33 mm/per day, which is about 10.5mm ( or approximately 1cm) per month. The length of the anagen phase varies from 2-7 years, and between 80-90% of hair on the hair on the scalp is in the anagen phase at any one time (there are over one hundred thousand hairs on the scalp) After the growing phase the follicle then enters the catagen phase. This phase lasts for approximately two weeks. Approximately 1% of hair on the scalp is in this phase at any one time. The final stage is the Telogen Phase. This is the resting phase of the growth cycle, and lasts for approximately three to four months. When the resting stage is complete the cycle begins again. As the new hair grows up the follicle it pushes out the old telogen hair. Everyday about 100 scalp hairs are shed per day, these are old telogen hairs.

Ok now the science is over let me clarify a few things. If your anagen phase is only a few years long the likely hood of your hair sweeping the floor is very slim, if however your anagen phase hair growth is years long up to 7 years, then you could have potentially very long hair (as I mentioned earlier the length to which your hair grows is genetic, so if you have hair that can grow below your shoulders you have inherited genes that allow your hair to grow for a good number of years in the anagen phase). But what about people, who have dreads/locks, how is it that their hair can grow so long? I hear you ask. Well the long and short of it, is the fact that the hair that should have dropped out in the telogen phase can't as it is waxed together with the new hair from the anagen phase. So you get hair that should have naturally fallen out being stuck to new hair, which makes it seem like the person could have hair that has a long anagen phase growth cycle.

But fear not ladies and gents whatever the length of your hair it can still look its best with TLC, It's not all about how long your hair is, it's about how good and healthy it looks. So start with a good diet, regular trims and the best hair products on the market-'Roots2Ends Natural Hair Pomade!'

Not All Hair Loss Means Hair Problems - Understand The Cycle Of Hair Growth First

By: Steven Yeoh

Hair grows in recurring cycles, with each cycle composed of three phases - anagen, catagen and telogen. The anagen phase is also referred to as the growth phase. About 85 to 90% of all the hairs in our heads are in this phase at one time. This part of the growth cycle lasts from 2 to 6 years and can continue for up to 8 years.

Once the hair reaches its maximum length in the anagen phase, the catagen phase of the growth cycle begins. This is a short phase, lasting only about 1 to 2 weeks. The catagen phase is also referred to as the transitional phase, when the cycle reaches the regressive stage and hair growth slows down. The follicle shrinks in size and the base begins to break down.

The telogen phase of the growth cycle is also known as the resting phase, when growth stops completely. This is the part where the follicle becomes degraded. This cycle lasts for about 6 weeks. Some hair may fall out but some stay in the follicle. Near the end of the telogen phase, new hair begins to form and grow. If the old hair is still attached, it is forced out and falls off the head. About 10% of our hair are in the telogen phase.

Hair growth cycle and hair loss

To understand hair loss, it is important that we know the nature of the cycle of hair growth. It is normal for people to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. When this happens, you are probably in the telogen phase. You'll probably find these lost strands in your brush, comb or on your shower floor. This is normal and there is no need to worry because they will be replaced by new growth.

It is only when you're losing more and are noticing rapid thinning that you should be concerned. These are signs that your hair growth is not fast enough to replace lost strands and there is a possibility that your normal hair cycle has been disrupted.

Hair grows from the follicles which are found in the top layer (epidermis) of the skin. It is made of keratin, a form of protein, the same component of the epidermis, fingernails and toe nails. At the base of the follicles, a papilla is found, which is made of blood vessels and nerves. These ensure that the growth cycle runs uninterrupted.

Factors that can affect hair growth

Barring any obstacle, the hair growth cycle will continue unabated. It is only when some factors are applied that the cycle is disrupted or stopped. These factors can lead to temporary hair loss. Or if not, they can cause alopecia, which is more permanent. These can include hormones, nutritional deficiencies, diseases of the thyroid gland, chemotherapy and radiation. The cycle may also be affected by skin diseases of the scalp, trauma or stress.

Certain drugs can also disrupt normal growth, including anti-depressants, hypertension drugs, retinoids and birth control pills. The birth of a baby may also contribute to hair loss, along with diseases such as lupus, diabetes and HIV/AIDS. Men and women with eating disorders or undergoing severe dieting are also susceptible to this condition.

It is interesting to note that hair growth is not indicated in the human embryo in its initial stages. Hair growth only becomes apparent when hair follicles begin to appear in the early stages of the embryo's development, before it assumes a human form in the mother's womb. Evidence of hair growth begins to appear when the fetus is approximately 9 weeks old. By 9 months, the human fetus already has every hair follicle he/she will ever have.

You Have A Choice In Hair Restoration Formula

Your hair grows in cycles. These cycles consist of a growth cycle, followed by a resting cycle and then a fall out cycle. To maintain hair that is full and thick, your hair growth rate must exceed or at least be equal to your fall out rate. As the growth cycle slow, the hairline recedes and begins to thin in areas. It eventually falls out. A hair restoration formula can help you keep your hair and even restart the growth cycle so that your hair is thick and full once again.

There are basically three different types of hair restoration formulas, herbal, organic and pharmaceutical. Each of these claims to have very high success rates. In the end, you have to choose the hair restoration formula that works best for you. You may find it necessary to try more than one treatment for your hair loss.

Herbal

Herbal hair restoration formulas use herbs and Chinese medicine to treat hair loss. They typically work internally to keep your hair in a growth cycle. Some formulations eliminate DHT (DeHydro - Testosterone). DHT is considered the "bad testosterone" and is has to its credit as being considered the leading cause of male pattern baldness. When these herbs eliminate the DHT, they allow new hair to grow which, in turn, makes your own hair thicker. Many of these types of treatments also claim to work on all areas that are experiencing baldness such as a receding hairline, thinning hair, baldness and splotchy bald patches.

Organic

Organic hair restoration formulas are free of pesticides, hormones and chemicals. They are all natural and work to naturally restore your hair's thickness. These products claim to be good for the environment because they are all natural and they also claim to be gentler on the body than other shampoos and conditioners that are heavily processed. These organic formulas have ingredients such as jojoba oil, wheat protein and organic fennel oil. The logic behind using all natural ingredients is that restoring the natural elements to your hair's diet you will, in turn, restore your hair's original volume and texture. All this is said to be done with out any side effects that are found in chemical additives that can be toxic to the body.

Pharmaceutical

There are currently two products on the market that are approved by the FDA to treat hair loss. Propecia is taken orally and Rogaine is applied topically to the scalp. Propecia eliminates hair loss by reducing the body's amount of DHT. It actually inhibits DHT formation in the scalp which, in turn, helps to regrow visible hair and can reduce the incidence of hair loss progression.

Rogaine is a hair restoration formula that employs minoxidil and is applied directly to the scalp. This product works by revitalizing hair follicles that have shrunken and basically shut down hair growth. When the hair follicles are revitalized and their size is increased, hair regrowth may occur.

Does Diabetes Cause Hair Loss?

By: Jeff Wilson

Diabetes can be a major factor in hair loss for a lot of people. The hair loss will normally begin at the onset of diabetes and gradually gets worse as the disease progresses. It is normal to shed some hair each day, but when the shedding rate exceeds the rate of re-growth, that is when you will start to notice thinning hair or bald patches.

Hair has a growth cycle. A normal hair growth cycle will last for 2 to 6 years. The growth stage of the cycle is known as the anagen stage. Each hair on your head grows at a rate of approximately one half inch per month. Ninety percent of all the hair on your head is in the growth stage at one time. The other ten percent of your hair is in what is known as the telogen or resting phase. The resting phase will last for two to three months and then that hair is shed. New hair will start to grow from the same hair follicle to replace the shed hair. This cycle repeats itself over and over, year after year.

Being a diabetic increases your chance of hair loss. Diabetics are more prone to get skin infections and other fungal infections that can affect the scalp. Stress from the disease can also cause hair loss. Certain medicines that you may be taking for diabetes or other conditions can also cause your hair to fall out.

Getting your diabetes under control should be the first step that you take. Hair loss may stop after your blood sugar is under control and your body is able to function normally. Some hair loss may require medical treatment. If your hair loss is caused by a fungal infection, medication would be needed to get rid of the infection. Other hair loss medications may be beneficial in helping to regrow the hair that is lost. Talk to your doctor about the best option for you.

If your hair loss appears to be more permanent, you may want to consider surgical intervention such as a hair transplant. This consists of taking hair from the back of the head and moving it to the areas of baldness. A candidate for hair transplant surgery is someone who has a fringe of hair along the sides and back of the head. This hair is used as donor hair and can be placed wherever needed.

Diabetes can cause a lot of symptoms. Unfortunately, hair loss is one of them. It is vital that you maintain good blood sugar levels, follow your diabetic diet and start exercising. Lose those excess pounds and follow up with your doctor frequently. You may be able to halt the hair loss in it's tracks.
